Romantic Spots to Visit in Egypt: 10 Unforgettable Destinations for Couples 2026

A stunning photo of a couple on an Egyptian beach. - Romantic Spots to Visit in Egypt

QUICK ANSWER

The most romantic spots in Egypt are the Nile River cruise route between Luxor and Aswan, a hot air balloon at sunrise over Luxor’s West Bank, a private sunset felucca in Aswan, the Pyramids of Giza at dusk, the Red Sea coast around Sharm El Sheikh and El Gouna, and the star-filled silence of the Siwa Oasis. Egypt suits couples at every budget, and the best time to visit for romance is October through April.

Egypt does not need an introduction when it comes to historical sightseeing spots; everyone knows about the pyramids, mummies, and pharaohs. But there are few who know how romantic Egypt can be owing to its rich history.

Just think about all the things Egypt can offer you in terms of romance: a river where the gold has set after sunset for thousands of years, temples constructed by the civilization that considered love to be sacred, a Red Sea reef that looks warm and inviting even during November, and absolute silence in the Western Desert.

In the fifteen years during which I have been taking couples around here, I have seen how Egypt sneaks up on visitors — tired honeymooners getting lost in the night sky above Karnak just four days into their cruise down the Nile, or the British couple sobbing over dinner at Old Cataract Hotel in Aswan after failing to capture that view in a photo.

This travel guide includes ten locations, from the obvious to the obscure, grouped by location rather than action, because most couples start out with a place in mind, not an atmosphere. You will learn within each place the key experiences that make any vacation memorable.

1- A Nile River Cruise: Egypt’s Most Romantic Journey

In Egypt, nothing equals a few days cruising down the Nile. Not for the views you see off the deck – although even Karnak bathed in afternoon light proves hard to write about without overblown language – but for the pace. Cruising means having nowhere to go and no rush to get anywhere. Instead, you float past temples, dine under the stars while watching the river flow beside you, and wake to mist over the water before the heat begins. For lovers, this pace will achieve something no city hotel can.

The standard route is from Luxor to Aswan, or vice versa, and takes around 200 kilometres over three to seven nights, calling into ports at Edfu, Kom Ombo, and the Valley of the Kings before finally docking at Aswan, the most peaceful – and in my opinion – beautiful city on the river.

Luxury Nile Cruise (Luxor to Aswan)

A five-star cruise vessel is the smoothest way for couples to cover Upper Egypt. Private balconies, sun decks, candlelit dinners, and guided excursions each morning that you can choose to join or skip — the structure is there when you want it and invisible when you don’t. EgyVacations operates a range of luxury Nile Cruises from four to eight nights, with departures tailored around the best touring windows. Evening hours on these vessels are genuinely romantic — the Nile after dark is very different from the busy river during the daytime, and most couples find themselves on the deck long after dinner.

Dahabiya — The Private Alternative

Should you find a regular cruise too much in the communal vein, then the dahabiya experience justifies the additional expense. In the dahabiya boat there is a limit of ten or twelve passengers, and one sails slowly enough to make a regular cruise look like fast-paced motoring. You get the sailing experience, anchor away from other vessels in a secluded bay, and enjoy meals cooked especially for your group alone. Dahabiya Nile cruises by EgyVacations have been one of their top choices for honeymooners and anniversary celebrators.

Felucca Sunset Sail in Aswan

For couples seeking the essence of the Nile condensed into one night instead of one week, the private felucca ride at sunset from Aswan is recommended. Feluccas are traditional Nile boats without engines, leaving behind no noise except that of the river itself. You rent the entire boat just for yourselves, your skipper sails you past the island of Elephantine and the Aga Khan Mausoleum, and then you sit for an hour as the sun paints the sky colors no filters could ever enhance.

2- Luxor: Temples, Tombs, and the Most Spectacular Sunrise in Egypt

Luxor stands on the ruins of the old city of Thebes, and even after my fiftieth visit to this place, it never fails to leave an unsettling yet positive impression. Looking at Karnak Temple from the other side of the Nile during sunset leaves an impression in my mind that it was constructed by supernatural beings – the temple being too large for the human mind to conceive.

The city is actually separated by the river Nile, where the East Bank houses Karnak and Luxor Temples, alongside most hotels and dining establishments, while the other part consists of the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queens, Colossi of Memnon, and the Temple of Hatshepsut. A minimum stay of two days will do, although three would be ideal.

Hot Air Balloon at Sunrise over the West Bank

In most cases, I recommend all couples I guide to undertake this activity, and so far I have never received any negative feedback. The hot air balloon takes off shortly after sunrise and passes over the west bank once the sun rises above the eastern hilltop. Looking below, you can see temples and the valley of the kings’ tombs, the same scene that was viewed thousands of years ago by the priests and pharaohs. The duration for the tour is about one hour. People usually become very quiet when they undertake this experience.

Sunset at Karnak — The Largest Temple Complex in the World

The Karnak Light and Sound Show plays every third night of the week in English. This is when you get to tour the colonnade of the temple by night, when the light and color scheme used consists of shades of gold and violet. The play is rather old-fashioned, but the venue leaves nothing to be desired. Sitting in the hall with 134 columns, with the tallest of them reaching a height of 21 meters, is an experience that will leave you breathless.

Candlelit Dinner with a Temple View

Various restaurants and terraces on the West Bank have a direct view of the Colossi of Memnon and the mountain of the Valley of the Kings. At Al-Moudira Hotel, which is a private hotel located among the sugar cane farms, you can enjoy delicious meals and absolute quietness of the West Bank at night. The place is worth taking a taxi trip to the West Bank.

3- Aswan: The Intimate Capital of the Nile

Aswan is my preferred Egyptian location for honeymooners to visit. As compared to other cities, Aswan is small when compared to Luxor, quiet when compared to Cairo, warm when compared to Alexandria, and has the Nile flowing through the area at its most magnificent, as the river is wide, surrounded by orange colored granite rocks and dotted with islands. Light is also better here because it is soft and golden.

Aswan can be termed as having the character of being more Nubian as opposed to having any other characteristic. The markets do not have mass produced artifacts that can be found in Cairo but are dominated with indigo cloth and painted ceramic objects. There are also several villages that cater to visitors with authentic Nubian cooking and henna painting services, which honeymooners find very authentic.

The Sofitel Legend Old Cataract: Egypt’s Most Romantic Hotel

There is only one hotel in Egypt that I would unhesitatingly recommend for couples, and it is the Old Cataract. This hotel was used as the setting of Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie. Both Winston Churchill and Princess Diana had stayed in this hotel. The architecture of the hotel is the 1902 Victorian Gothic that towers over the First Cataract, and the view of the Nile towards the Aga Khan Mausoleum from its terrace restaurant is a view to be remembered in writing home about it.

Elephantine Island and the Botanical Gardens

There is a Nubian village on the island across from Aswan’s Corniche, there is an old Nilometer for measuring Nile’s flood level, and there is an archaeological site on it too. It takes just three minutes and not more than a few coins to go across the water to the island by water taxis. Romantic couples prefer to stay here for about two hours.

Abu Simbel: The Optional Detour Worth Making

Abu Simbel is located about 280 kilometres away from Aswan, requiring either an early morning flight or a lengthy road journey. However, the temples of Ramses II and Nefertari make up one of the best cases Egypt can give for itself. Unlike any other temple in ancient Egypt, the temple dedicated to Queen Nefertari was constructed to be equal to that of the pharaoh himself, an act of dedication which doesn’t go unnoticed by any couple visiting.

4- Cairo: Where Ancient Wonders and Modern Romance Collide

Cairo does not initially appear to be a romantic city. In fact, it is huge, chaotic, sometimes overwhelming, and very noisy. However, Cairo earns its spot on this list because of the unique experiences that the couple can have there, and the particular vibe that this city emanates when you hit upon the right times to be there.

Almost all travel plans in Egypt start in Cairo. This is a good thing, as Cairo can serve as the beginning of your Egyptian travels since it is an ideal location to orient yourself to what will come next in the south, where things tend to be a bit quieter.

The Pyramids of Giza at Sunset: Private Dinner Option

Pyramids of Giza one of those places that has been spoiled by photographs. But to witness firsthand the transition of the limestone colors from white to amber to black as the sun descends behind the Giza triangle is truly an experience that no photograph can do justice to. There are various hotels and tour companies that provide private tables for dinners on the plateau, ensuring that the view remains uninterrupted. Though expensive and requiring advanced booking, this experience can never match the romance of having dinner on top of the Marriott Mena House Hotel, located within the Giza complex, without breaking the bank. EgyVacations offers Pyramid sunset visits with their Cairo day tours.

Nile Dinner Cruise from Cairo

It’s not like going on the felucca in Aswan or even on the cruise ship in Luxor; it’s an entertainment cruise featuring live music, belly dancers, and a crowd of locals as well as tourists who are there for the night out. This one isn’t intimate, but it’s definitely a lot of fun. Reservations can be made in advance for a prime seat in the bow of the upstairs deck. try it now.

Al-Azhar Park: Cairo’s Hidden Garden for Couples

Al-Azhar Park is definitely one of the best surprises Cairo can offer, located on a former rubbish dump in the Islamic part of Cairo. Not only does it provide beautiful views overlooking the city’s skyline with its minarets, but it also contains nicely kept gardens. Moreover, there is a decent Lakeside Café that provides very tasty meals for rather reasonable prices.

5- Sharm El Sheikh: Red Sea Romance for Couples Who Love the Water

Sharm El Sheikh is located at the most southern end of the Sinai Peninsula, which marks the point where the Gulf of Aqaba joins the Red Sea, and it is no wonder that it attracts many couples internationally. It offers clear sea with visibility up to 30 meters, warm waters that make it possible to go swimming all year round except for summer months, and coral reefs that have to be some of the best. What makes Sharm El Sheikh even better is its well-developed resort facilities including good hotels, flights from abroad, and restaurants of various types.

Naama Bay is known for being the entertainment center with a line of restaurants, cafes, and shops on the seashore that stay open for business late but do not become too rowdy. Couples seeking a place to enjoy entertainment can stay there, while others seeking a quieter place can rent accommodation further south in Shark Bay or Sharm El Maya.

Snorkelling and Diving at Ras Mohamed National Park.

Ras Mohamed offers some of the finest reef snorkeling in Sharm, located at the southern tip of the peninsula. This is where you can find an abrupt drop-off of the coral reef into deep waters with various species of fish such as Napoleon wrasse, reef sharks, and manta rays during the breeding season. Most couples that have their first experience here at Ras Mohamed will definitely plan on coming back again. Excursions leave from Naama Bay every day. EgyVacations offers Sharm El Sheikh day tours including combined snorkel and sunset options.

Moses Mountain (Jebel Musa) at Sunrise

Starting from 2 o’clock in the morning, the trek to the peak of Mount Sinai will take about two to three hours, reaching its peak point at 2,285 meters at the time of sunrise. This is not a walk for everyone, but even fit couples can manage. The experience of gazing on the sprawling Sinai Desert below you, seeing the skies turn red, and hearing only silence until others join is an incredible one that no one should miss in Egypt.

Sunset at Naama Bay

For those looking for a nice evening only, there is the western section of Naama Bay that receives the spectacular sunset of the Sinai Peninsula – the hills going purple and the bay getting dark blue. There is nothing fancy about dining by the water at one of the beachside restaurants and having a drink during the sunset hour.

6- Hurghada and El Gouna: Laid-Back Luxury on the Egyptian Riviera

Hurghada is Egypt’s first Red Sea resort town and still the most popular one. It may be noisier and more developed than Sharm, but Hurghada’s redeeming feature is a wide variety of prices – excellent hotels for any budget – and El Dahar, a proper Egyptian town which gives the place something of a character that many resort towns lack. For couples looking for dependable beach resorts offering reasonable prices and flight connections to Europe and the Gulf, there is little not to like about Hurghada.

On the other hand, El Gouna located some twenty minutes further to the north is a completely different prospect. Designed to function as a holiday resort town built around a chain of lakes and islands, El Gouna became one of the nicest destinations in Egypt for couples looking for a relaxed holiday experience. There is the opportunity to use kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, or a small boat to travel across lakes. The quality of both food and drinks in the bars is superb; kite-surfing opportunities are fantastic.

El Gouna Lagoon Boat Ride

Spend an afternoon hiring an electric-powered boat in the island network of El Gouna’s lagoon and see how little this memorable experience will cost you. You’ll cruise between the various islands of the town, cross through the bridges too low to be used by any other boats and enjoy peace in places deserted by others. It is simple and genuinely romantic. Hurghada day tours from EgyVacations can be combined with El Gouna time.

Dolphin Bay, Hurghada

Dolphin Bay, which is approximately 15 kilometers away from Hurghada’s downtown area, is a place full of corals where spinner dolphins will come to meet you at morning time. No acting involved – the dolphins just show up as there is a good reef here. It’s a perfect morning for two to begin with an early morning snorkel to the reef and return to have breakfast in the hotel.

7- Siwa Oasis: Off the Grid, Under the Stars

Siwa can be found in a depression in the Western Desert, close to the border of Libya, and it takes a six-hour car journey to get there from Alexandria and an eight-hour one to reach it from Cairo. Siwa is the most isolated location in Egypt and the most enchanting one for the right couple. It was visited by Alexander the Great, the oracle of Amun being consulted by him. The legend says that Cleopatra used to take baths in the spring named after her. The oasis has been inhabited for more than three thousand years with no major changes in its tempo being noticed.

Siwa is not suitable for a couple looking for things to do. It is designed for a couple that wants to stop doing everything. The rhythm here implies strolling around, eating dates bought directly from a garden, taking a swim in a lake fed by the spring, and simply sitting and contemplating the performance of nature.

Cleopatra’s Spring and the Salt Lakes

Ain Cleopatra is a spring lake situated inside a natural rock formation, and it is accessible to tourists all day long. The water is warm, has a slight sulfur smell, and is very clear. Salt lakes, including Birket Siwa, and the smaller Zeitun Lake, are salty enough to easily float without making any effort. Tourists who visit many temples in Egypt for almost a week, and then arrive in Siwa, will tell you that the best thing they have done so far is floating in the salt lake.

Desert Stargazing and Bedouin Camp

Siwa’s Western Desert experiences minimal light pollution. The Milky Way can be seen at night on a clear day as a strip in the night sky. The desert guides provide overnight trips to the White Desert, which is found some four hours east of Siwa and characterized by chalk rocks molded into different shapes by thousands of years of winds into what looks like manmade forms. EgyVacations’ Egypt desert safari tours include Siwa and White Desert overnight options.

8- Alexandria: Mediterranean Melancholy and Romantic Grandeur

Alexandria is a different city from the rest of Egypt. Unlike Cairo, which backs on to the desert, Alexandria opens onto the Mediterranean Sea. Where the rest of Egypt reflects the beauty of its ancient Egyptian history and culture, Alexandria evokes the tragedy of a once-great civilization aware of its former glory. Gone are the library, the palaces of Cleopatra submerged by six metres of water, and the Pharos Lighthouse, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

All that remains are a seaside Corniche, streets written about by Durrell and Cavafy, and the dream-like air of Alexandria itself. For couples who enjoy reading, appreciate European café culture, and want history without the masses, Alexandria is a city worth visiting. It is also only a two-hour train ride from Cairo, allowing it to be conveniently incorporated into a weekend away.

Stanley Bridge and the Corniche at Sunset

The Stanley Bridge, an arch structure built over the sea and restricted only for pedestrian traffic, faces towards the west direction. The setting sun during such time at Stanley Bridge is much cooler than that at the desert region in Luxor or the Nile River in Aswan, as it reflects a silvery colour from the pale gold hue of the sea and then turns into a grey-blue one. Couples strolling across this bridge would find themselves amidst people of similar inclination.

Bibliotheca Alexandrina

Today’s library, erected at the location believed to be that of the ancient one, is a building of beauty which is definitely worth seeing irrespective of whether one spends time in it. The reading rooms are open to the public, there are great views of the harbour, and the adjoining museum houses underwater finds from the harbour floor dating back to the times of the ancient lighthouse.

Coffee at a Historic Café

Located on the Corniche is Café Trianon, opened back in 1905 and a place that is very much loved by the Greek poets who shaped the literary character of Alexandria in the 20th century. This place has been revived and reopened. Coffee is excellent, pastries even better, and sitting here makes a couple feel like they have experienced authentic Alexandria after visiting the tourist side of Egypt.

9- Dahab: Bohemian, Beautiful, and Genuinely Underrated

The town of Dahab lies along the coast of the Gulf of Aqaba in Sinai, about an hour’s drive north of Sharm El Sheikh, and plays a niche role that cannot be played by either Sharm or Hurghada. While Sharm is all sophistication and luxury, Dahab is a bit more relaxed, and more affordable.

Its old town consists of rows of roof-top dining places looking out over the Gulf; in the distance, the hills of Saudi Arabia appear against the skyline while the waters of the Gulf are crystal clear below. Those who enjoy scuba-diving, who feel at home in rustic accommodations, and who don’t expect to have access to a massage room or a swim-up bar will find nothing that compares to Dahab on the Red Sea.

The Blue Hole at First Light

The Blue Hole is an underwater sinkhole about 100 meters deep located in the reef formation 6 kilometers north of Dahab. The Blue Hole looks like nothing more than a black hole surrounded by the Colourful waters from above. One of the best things you can do while at the Blue Hole is snorkel around the edge at 7 a.m. in the morning when there are no day trippers around.

Rooftop Dinner over the Gulf

The strip of restaurants in Dahab lies on stilts over the water, and nearly all the restaurants have outdoor seating on the water’s edge next to the reef. At night, the Gulf becomes quite dark, and the Saudi Arabian mountains can be seen as a dark strip across the Gulf. To eat grilled fish from a table 30 centimeters above sea level and gaze up at the sky is just what you expect it to be like.

10- Marsa Alam: Egypt’s Quietest and Most Private Destination

Marsa Alam lies in the southern coastal areas of the Egyptian Red Sea, 200 kilometers south of Hurghada and the last resort destination before the Egyptian-Sudanese border. Distance from Hurghada equates to distance from people; the hotels have space and are not overly developed, the reefs are untrodden, and there is much wildlife. Here turtles come to lay their eggs, and dugongs, or sea cows which provided the inspiration for the legend of the mermaid, graze on the seagrasses in Marsa Mubarak.

When you have a couple friends who really want privacy, who want to spend their mornings at the beach, afternoons underwater, dine, and then just relax without any set schedule, Marsa Alam is perfect for them, since this place offers more privacy than anywhere else in Egypt along the coast. There are all-inclusive resorts offering couple packages in this destination. EgyVacations’ Marsa Alam tour options include sea turtle snorkel excursions and private boat hire.

Swimming with Sea Turtles at Marsa Mubarak

There are green turtles and hawksbills which feed in the meadows all year round. Snorkeling along with these animals 2-3 meters below the surface at a slow pace without disturbing them during feeding is one of the most tranquil encounters in Egyptian wildlife. In contrast with whale sharks encountered in other parts of the Red Sea, there is no rush here.

Private Beach Resorts

There are many of the bigger resorts south of Marsa Alam Town that each have their own stretch of beach running for a kilometer or more. For those couples who have had enough after touring between the temples and the various cruise ships, a few days at one of these resorts — lying around, swimming, and sleeping — constitutes a totally new experience of Egypt.

Planning Your Romantic Egypt Trip: Practical Notes

Best Time to Visit Egypt for Couples

From October through April will be your best bet with almost all destinations mentioned here. It is not too hot during the day (the temperature ranges from 20 to 30 degrees Celsius), the weather at night can be considered cool, and the sunlight, which is low compared to summer, is great for photographs and eating outdoors. Red Sea area is warm all year round, but Luxor and Cairo become especially nice to visit from autumn to spring when compared to other seasons.

How Long Do You Need?

For a concentrated tour along the Nile as well as a Cairo tour, it is feasible in seven days. If a vacation to either Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada, or Marsa Alam in the Red Sea is added, ten to twelve days will be sufficient. For Siwa or Dahab, fourteen days would be required to allow one ample time without being rushed. The destinations that couples remember most are those from which they spend time rather than just pass through.

Honeymoon and Romantic Packages

EgyVacations’ Egypt honeymoon packages combine Cairo, the Nile, and a Red Sea extension into structured itineraries that include private transfers, guided excursions, and romantic add-ons — sunset felucca rides, balloon bookings, private dinners — arranged in advance. Custom itineraries through the tailor-a-tour service allow couples to mix and match destinations around specific interests and travel dates.

Budget Planning

Egypt is truly worth its money as a destination for tourists abroad. A Nile river cruise in a decent cabin costs about $70 per person per night. Five-star river boats cost $150-$250 per person per night. Hotels along the Red Sea Coast are priced between $50 and $200 per night. Guides who take you on a tour by day charge $60-$120 per person per day including transportation. The memories that most couples will keep in their minds, such as a felucca ride, a balloon trip at dawn, or camping in the desert, are not always the expensive elements of the tour.

FAQs: Romantic Spots to Visit in Egypt

Is Egypt safe for couples and honeymooners?

Tourists visiting Egypt from abroad are guaranteed to be safe, even if it’s for a honeymoon holiday. Millions of people travel to Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, the Red Sea coast, and Sharm El Sheikh each year. Basic safety measures include taking precautions such as using trusted tour companies and following advice issued by the UK Foreign Office and US State Department. Most couples who vacation in Egypt feel secure all the time.

What is the most romantic city in Egypt?

Aswan. It features some of the most scenic stretches of the Nile, strong Nubian culture, streets that are less busy than those of Cairo and Luxor, and the most spectacular sunset felucca ride in the entire country.

Is a Nile cruise romantic for couples?

Definitely. The best Nile cruise has a private balcony, dinner while watching the sunset on the deck, a visit to temples at dawn, and just drifting down one of the great rivers without any particular urgency of doing anything. The luxury as well as dahabiya cruises are the most romantic. Group cruises are also very nice.

What is the best time of year to visit Egypt as a couple?

October to April. The weather is nice everywhere, the sun shines well, and tourism is strong but not too busy. November and March are especially nice — warm enough for the Red Sea and cold enough for visiting temples.

Can we do a romantic Egypt holiday on a budget?

Yes. A ride on a felucca at Aswan is affordable in terms of the fee charged for one hour. Visiting the salt lakes at Siwa costs nothing. It’s cheap to eat out in Dahab. A Nile cruise that includes food and sightseeing tours costs far less per day than hotels in most cities of Europe.

How many days do we need for a romantic Egypt trip?

At least seven nights for the Cairo and Nile cruise (Luxor to Aswan). Ten to twelve nights for the Red Sea. Fourteen days in case of remote locations such as Siwa or Dahab. The most common mistake that couples do on their first visit is rushing Egypt.

Do we need a tour guide, or can we explore independently?

Having a licensed guide for these temples, such as Karnak, Valley of the Kings, and Abu Simbel, will add value to the experience. In terms of transport between the cities, it will be easier to have someone show the way around. Traveling alone is also possible; however, it may be best to have a tour arranged by an agency in order to relieve stress.

Is Egypt a good choice for a honeymoon?

It makes a good choice because, firstly, it combines culture, landscape, and luxury options, which cannot be found anywhere else; secondly, the quality of service provided here is high compared to other European honeymoon places; and thirdly, there is nothing usual about Egypt; people who go there do not have to follow the trend like others. The cruise along the Nile River has been a place for honeymoons for more than one hundred years.
