Cairo and Alexandria see a deep partial eclipse but not totality, so the sky never goes fully dark there. It depends on your time and how much you want to see around the eclipse. A day tour suits travellers already in Luxor; a 4-day trip or the Aswan to Luxor eclipse cruise focuses on the Nile Valley; seven to nine days adds Cairo and the Pyramids, and some packages add the Red Sea, Alexandria or Siwa. Yes. Every traveller receives certified ISO 12312-2 eclipse glasses for watching the partial phases safely. Keep them on whenever any part of the sun is visible, and only remove them during the minutes of totality, when the moon fully covers the sun; your guide will tell you when it is time to take them off and when to put them back on.

Only during the brief totality phase, when the sun is completely covered. Before and after totality, and anywhere that sees only a partial eclipse, such as Cairo, you must use special eclipse glasses or a proper solar filter; ordinary sunglasses are not safe. Cameras, binoculars and telescopes also need solar filters whenever any part of the sun is visible.

Very hot: midday temperatures can exceed 40 °C, and the eclipse itself happens around 1 pm.
