How to choose a wheelchair accessible tour

This page has 2 itineraries, so the choice is mostly about length and route. One combines Cairo with a Nile cruise. The other adds Alexandria, Luxor and Aswan and lasts longer. Read both day-by-day plans and see which stops matter most to you. Prices start at $2,627 per person, in US dollars.

Before you decide, write down what you need: how you move, what you can manage in a day and who is travelling. Access differs from site to site and from hotel to hotel, so tell us in your enquiry and we plan around it. The itinerary and quote are free. Nothing is booked until you are sure the plan works for you, and a real person answers on WhatsApp 24/7 during the trip.

If neither itinerary fits your dates, ask us to build one. To see how a cruise works before you choose, browse the Nile cruises. For more routes, see all Egypt tours.

All general travel FAQs

A wheelchair accessible Egypt tour is a private trip planned around your mobility: your own guide and vehicle, a slower pace, and sites, hotels and cruise cabins chosen with access in mind. Because nobody else shares the trip, the guide can take the easiest route at each site, allow extra time for transfers and change the plan on the day if something is harder than expected.

Our dedicated wheelchair accessible itineraries start from $2,627 per person for the 10-day Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor and Aswan tour, and the 8-day Cairo and Nile cruise accessible tour starts from $2,857. Other itineraries on this page can be adapted for limited mobility, and the price then depends on the hotels, cabin and transport your needs require. Your quote lists everything that is included.

Partly. Your vehicle can drive across the Giza plateau between the main viewpoints, so you can see the Great Pyramid, the panoramic view of all three pyramids and the Sphinx from the road or paved areas. Ground near the monuments is uneven, sandy and sloping, and the passages inside the pyramids are narrow and steep, so they are not suitable for wheelchairs. Your guide plans the stops around what works for you.

It varies by site. Large open temples such as Karnak and Luxor Temple are mostly level but have uneven ancient paving, thresholds and some steps, so a sturdy wheelchair and a helper make a big difference. Tombs in the Valley of the Kings and some temples involve slopes or stairs, and Philae is reached by boat. We choose which sites to include, and in what order, based on what you tell us about your mobility.

Yes, with the right ship and some planning. Some Nile cruise ships have cabins and public areas that are easier to reach, but boarding often means a gangway with steps or crossing other boats moored alongside, so assistance is usually needed. When you enquire, we check the options for your dates and explain honestly what boarding and moving around on board will involve before you book.

The more detail, the better the plan: whether you use a manual or electric wheelchair and if it folds, how far you can walk or transfer, whether you travel with a companion who can help, and what you need in a hotel room or bathroom. A consultant then writes a free day-by-day plan with a full price, and you can change it as often as you like until it fits.

Mid-October to April. Cooler days make long hours outdoors much easier, especially at the open temples of Luxor and Aswan, where there is little shade. From May to September it is hot, particularly in the south, and heat adds to the effort of moving around the sites. The cooler months are also the busiest, so book 2 to 3 months ahead to secure the rooms and cabins that suit you.

Yes. The same approach works for anyone who walks slowly, uses a cane or walker, or tires quickly: shorter walking distances, more rest stops, the vehicle waiting close to each entrance where it is allowed, and sightseeing in the cooler hours. Tell us what a comfortable day looks like for you, and your guide adjusts each day to your group.

Most visitors need a tourist visa: a single-entry visa costs $36 on arrival at the main airports and is valid for 30 days, or you can apply in advance on the official e-Visa portal, which saves time at the airport; rules vary by nationality. Wheelchair assistance through the airports is arranged by your airline, so request it when you book your flights.
