Which Egypt route is actually yours

Almost every first visit is built on the same spine — the Giza plateau and the Grand Egyptian Museum, then Luxor and Aswan either by Nile cruise or by road. What separates the routes on this page is not which sites you see but how much air sits between them. A four or five-day short break covers Cairo and one southern city and asks you to move every morning. Eight days is the one most people end up on: Cairo, a four-night cruise, and no day that starts before six. Ten and over is where Abu Simbel, the Red Sea or a second country stop being a stretch.

Private, small group, or a cruise cabin

Every tour on this page is private unless the card says otherwise — your party, your guide, your vehicle. That is not a premium tier here, it is the default, and it is why a day can be rewritten the night before. A cruise is the exception worth understanding: you have a private guide for the excursions, but the ship, the sailing times and the dining room are shared with everyone else on board.

What the price on each card means

Prices here are per person sharing a double room, and they carry entrance fees, transfers, guides and taxes inside the number, plus domestic flights where the itinerary says so. International flights, your visa, tips and anything you order yourself sit outside it and are named in writing before you commit. Nothing is charged until you say the itinerary is right; a deposit as low as 30% confirms the booking and the balance is due two days before you arrive — 50% over Christmas, New Year and Easter.

When to come, and when to book

October to April is the comfortable half of the year: 20–28 °C in Luxor and Aswan, which is what three hours inside a temple actually requires. November to February is peak and the cruise ships fill three to four months out, so a date held in September is a very different price from the same date held in November. March and April keep the weather and lose the queues. June to August runs at a real discount, with excursions moved to dawn and the afternoon given back to the pool.

Travelling with children, or with limited mobility

Under-twos travel free, children aged 2–5 pay 25% and children aged 6–11 pay 50% of the adult tour cost when sharing the parents' room. Because the tours here are private, a day can be shortened, a museum swapped for a felucca, or a rest morning added without asking anyone else's permission. We also run wheelchair-accessible itineraries with vehicles and sites chosen for step-free access.

All general travel FAQs

An Egypt classic tour is the route most first-time visitors want: Cairo and the Pyramids of Giza, then south to Luxor and Aswan, usually with a Nile cruise between the two. It covers the country's best-known pharaonic sites in one trip. Ours are private, with a licensed Egyptologist guide, and many add Abu Simbel, Alexandria, Fayoum or a few days on the Red Sea.

In Cairo, the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx, and usually the Egyptian Museum or the Grand Egyptian Museum. In Luxor, Karnak and Luxor Temple on the east bank and the Valley of the Kings on the west bank. Between Luxor and Aswan, a Nile cruise stops at Edfu and Kom Ombo, and Aswan adds Philae. Your itinerary lists exactly which sites and entrance fees are included.

Our Egypt classic tours start from $1,060 per person for the 5 Days Cairo and Luxor Private Tour Package. Classic routes with a Nile cruise cost more, for example the 8 Days Cairo and Nile Cruise Tour Package by Train from $1,300 or the 8 Days Cairo and Nile Cruise With Abu Simbel Package from $1,780. Season, hotel level and group size set the final price, and your quote lists all inclusions.

Eight to ten days is the most comfortable length for the classic route of Cairo, Luxor and Aswan with a Nile cruise. Five days is enough for Cairo and Luxor only. If you want to add Abu Simbel, Alexandria or the Red Sea without rushing, plan 12 to 15 days; our longest classic itineraries run 15 days.

It depends on the package. Many classic tours connect Cairo with the south by domestic flight, which saves a day, while some travel by train, such as the 8 Days Cairo and Nile Cruise Tour Package by Train. Between Luxor and Aswan the Nile cruise does the travelling for you. Your itinerary says which option is included, and we can switch it when you plan.

Both follow the classic Nile route between Luxor and Aswan. A cruise ship is larger, with a pool, a full restaurant and a fixed schedule. A dahabiya takes up to 20 guests, sails partly by wind and moors at quieter spots the big ships pass. Our 8 Days Cairo and Dahabiya Cruise Tour Package starts from $1,850 if you prefer the smaller boat.

Yes. Several classic packages already do: there are routes that end with a beach stay in Hurghada or Sharm El-Sheikh, others that add Alexandria or Fayoum, and the 15 Day Cairo, Alexandria, Hurghada and Nile Cruise with Abu Simbel combines them. Every itinerary can be adjusted, so you can add or remove a stop and we re-price the trip for you.

Mid-October to April is the best time for a classic Egypt tour, when the weather is mild for temples in Luxor and Aswan and for time on deck. It is also the busiest season, so book 2 to 3 months ahead; Christmas and New Year fill first. From May to September the south is hot, but there are fewer visitors and lower prices, and visits are planned for the early morning.

Yes. Because our classic tours are private, your guide sets the pace around your group, with breaks when you need them and shorter visits in the heat. Children sharing a room with two paying adults travel free under 2, pay 25% from 2 to 5 and 50% from 6 to 11. Travellers with limited mobility can also choose a wheelchair accessible route; tell us your needs when you enquire.

Send an enquiry with your dates and the package you like; a consultant replies, usually within a few hours on WhatsApp or by email, with a day-by-day plan, hotels and a full price, and adjusts it as often as you need. A deposit as low as 30% confirms the booking (50% over Christmas, New Year and Easter), with the balance due two days before arrival or in cash on arrival.

Tell us the trip you have in mind. We'll write the itinerary.
