Designed for travelers who want to make the most of their time, these tours provide a complete introduction to Luxor’s world-famous heritage in just one rewarding day.

The journey usually begins on the East Bank, where history unfolds at the vast Karnak Temple Complex. Walking among its towering columns and sacred avenues gives a true sense of the power and ambition of ancient civilizations. Nearby, Luxor Temple adds a different charm, especially with its elegant statues and riverside setting that once played a central role in religious festivals. These iconic landmarks are highlights of many itineraries and set the tone for a meaningful cultural experience.

Had a great time in Egypt! I had an amazing experience with Egy Vacations from start to finish. The planning process was smooth, and Eman, who helped us plan our itinerary, was incredibly accommodating. She adjusted the itinerary to include places we really wanted to visit and made everything work within our student budget. In Cairo, we only had time for a one-day tour, but it was still very well organized and made the most of the limited time we had. Our guide, Toka, was very knowledgeable and explained Egyptian history in a clear and engaging way. Her storytelling made the dynasties easy to understand, even for first-time visitors. She was friendly and fun to be around, and she made the time spent driving between sites enjoyable as well. One small thing to note is that lunch was supposed to be included in the Cairo tour, but we didn’t end up having lunch, likely due to our very packed itinerary. This was understandable given the time constraints, but it would have been helpful to have a heads-up since the tour was booked with lunch included. During our cruise and our time in Luxor and Aswan, Amir was our guide. These cities are absolutely beautiful, and Amir did a great job explaining the history without overwhelming us, especially since we had no background in Egyptology. At sites where guides were not allowed inside, he patiently explained the carvings in our photos and clearly knew exactly where each one came from. Beyond the tours, he shared a lot about local culture, daily life, and food recommendations, which added a lot to the experience. Having the same guide throughout Luxor and Aswan made the experience feel seamless and relaxed. Overall, Egy Vacations provided great value, excellent guides, and very personal service. As a woman, I felt safe and well taken care of throughout the entire trip. I would absolutely recommend Egy Vacations to other travelers if they are looking to go to Egypt on a private tour.

Great guide!! November is a very good time to travel to Egypt since the weather is very enjoyable. Of course, Egypt is a country to enjoy many remarkable historical sites but it would’ve not been the same without our knowledgable guide Ahmed Zidan. He made our trip in Cairo an even better experience through his interesting stories, amazing insights for each of the visits and his flexibility. We really recommend Ahmed Zidan as your guide.

Everything You Need to Know Before You Travel to Egypt.

Is it safe to travel to Egypt?

Absolutely. Egypt continues to be a safe and welcoming destination, especially in popular areas like Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, and Sharm El-Sheikh. These tourist hubs are well-secured and regularly patrolled by tourism police. While Egypt is a large and diverse country, some regions like Northern Sinai and remote parts of the western desert remain restricted due to safety concerns. At EgyVacations, we closely monitor all developments and tailor your itinerary to avoid any areas under advisory. As long as you follow standard travel precautions, you can enjoy Egypt’s rich history, culture, and warm hospitality with peace of mind.

As with travel to any destination, staying informed is key. Egypt is generally stable, but we advise our guests to avoid political protests or large public gatherings, which can occasionally occur in big cities. Borders—particularly near Libya and parts of Sinai—are considered sensitive zones and are best avoided without official guidance. At EgyVacations, we stay updated with government advisories, including those from the UK FCO and U.S. State Department, and we keep our guests informed before and during their trip to ensure smooth, secure travels.

Yes, registering with your embassy before your trip to Egypt is a smart move, especially if you plan to explore areas outside the main tourist zones. It ensures that you can be contacted in case of an emergency or travel alert. Many governments offer easy online registration, like STEP for U.S. citizens. At EgyVacations, we always recommend that our travelers register in advance—it adds an extra layer of safety and peace of mind while exploring the wonders of Egypt.

Solo and female travelers are welcomed in Egypt and often find the experience incredibly enriching. That said, we recommend exercising a bit more caution than you might at home—dress modestly, avoid isolated areas at night, and be wary of overly friendly strangers. Hiring a licensed private guide is an excellent way to stay both informed and secure. EgyVacations offers personalized tour options specifically designed for solo and female travelers, ensuring not only safety but also a deeply immersive experience tailored to your interests.

Visa Requirements

Most travelers visiting Egypt will need a tourist visa, which is easy to obtain and fairly straightforward. The standard visa costs $25 USD and is valid for 30 days. You can get it upon arrival at major international airports or apply in advance through Egypt’s official e-Visa portal. We recommend applying online if you want to save time at the airport. Nationals of some countries may have specific entry rules, so it’s always a good idea to double-check before your trip. At EgyVacations, we’re happy to assist with up-to-date visa information and help ensure your arrival is smooth and stress-free.

Currency & Payments

The local currency is the Egyptian Pound (EGP), but U.S. dollars are also widely accepted in tourist areas. Cash is king—especially at markets, small shops, and for tips—so keep a supply of small bills handy. Major hotels, upscale restaurants, and larger stores usually accept credit cards, but rural areas and street vendors often don’t. ATMs are available in most cities, but notify your bank before traveling. At EgyVacations, we always advise guests to carry a mix of local currency and small U.S. notes to ensure smooth transactions throughout their journey.

Tipping Culture

Tipping—known locally as “baksheesh”—is a well-established part of Egyptian culture and a gesture of appreciation for service. For small tasks like carrying bags or restroom service, 2–5 EGP is typical. In restaurants, 10–15% is standard if service isn’t included. For your guides, drivers, or hotel staff, tipping is expected and highly appreciated—consider budgeting around $3–5 USD per day per person for drivers and $10–15 USD for your guide. At EgyVacations, we’ll provide clear tipping guidance so you can navigate local customs with confidence and generosity.

When should I visit Egypt?

The best time to explore Egypt is from mid-October to April, when the weather is pleasantly mild—perfect for walking tours, Nile cruises, and desert adventures. If you’re looking to beat the crowds and still enjoy great weather, October–November and February–April are ideal “shoulder season” months. Summer (May–September) can be extremely hot, especially in southern Egypt, but if you don’t mind the heat, you’ll find fewer tourists and lower prices. At EgyVacations, we customize your itinerary based on seasonal highlights—whether it’s winter stargazing in the White Desert or springtime temple visits in Luxor.

Egypt’s climate is generally dry and sunny, so lightweight, breathable, and modest clothing is key—especially for visiting mosques and temples. We recommend bringing:

  • A wide-brimmed hat and high-SPF sunscreen
  • Comfortable walking shoes for long days of exploring
  • Hand sanitizer and tissues, as public restrooms may lack supplies
  • A reusable water bottle (but always avoid drinking tap water)
Our EgyVacations travel kits include a few essentials to help you stay comfortable throughout your trip—just another way we make your adventure hassle-free.

A few key items can make a big difference in your travel comfort. Be sure to bring:

  • A Type C or F plug adapter for charging devices
  • A local SIM card or eSIM for affordable data and easy navigation
  • A light jacket or scarf, especially for desert excursions or cool evenings between December and February
  • A quick-dry towel for spontaneous swims or desert adventures
We also recommend a small daypack and a journal—you’ll want to jot down memories in a place as inspiring as Egypt. With EgyVacations, we help you prepare fully, so you can travel light and experience more.

Are Nile cruises worth it?

Absolutely—taking a Nile cruise from Luxor to Aswan (or vice versa) is one of the most unforgettable experiences in Egypt. You’ll sail through timeless landscapes while stopping to explore ancient temples like Karnak, Kom Ombo, and Philae with ease. Cruising offers a relaxed pace and seamless travel between historical sites—no need to pack and unpack each night. Whether you choose a luxury liner or a more intimate dahabiya sailboat, you’ll enjoy scenic views, top-notch service, and guided tours with expert Egyptologists. At EgyVacations, we handpick cruise options tailored to your comfort, budget, and style of travel.

To truly appreciate the Great Pyramids of Giza, we recommend visiting early in the morning to beat the heat and crowds. Touring with a certified Egyptologist guide makes a huge difference—you’ll gain insights that bring the ancient world to life. For something extraordinary, consider a hot-air balloon ride over Luxor (yes, you can fly over ancient temples!) or combine your pyramid visit with a side trip to Saqqara and Dahshur for a deeper dive into Egypt’s architectural evolution. At EgyVacations, we specialize in crafting private, immersive pyramid experiences you’ll never forget.

There’s so much more to Egypt than its ancient wonders. We highly recommend:

  • Food walking tours in Cairo to taste local staples like koshary, falafel, and fresh juices
  • A visit to Saqqara and Dahshur for lesser-known but fascinating pyramids
  • A journey to the White Desert, where surreal landscapes offer adventure and tranquility
  • A trip to Abu Simbel, one of Egypt’s most awe-inspiring temples carved into rock
From culinary to cultural, EgyVacations designs itineraries that go beyond the tourist trail while staying totally safe and seamless.

For a well-rounded Egypt experience, we recommend:

  • 7 to 10 days to cover Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, and a Nile cruise
  • 12 to 14 days if you’d like to add the Red Sea (for snorkeling/diving), the Western Desert Oases, or historic Alexandria
This allows for both sightseeing and downtime, so you don’t feel rushed. Our team at EgyVacations will help you build the perfect trip based on your interests, whether you’re here for monuments, cuisine, adventure—or all of the above.
