Itinerary

Pick up from your hotel in Cairo or from Cairo Airport by an air-conditioned car and transfer to Tunis Village in El Fayoum Oasis, located in the Western Desert. The driving distance is around 126 km, and the trip takes approximately 1 hour and 52 minutes. Upon arrival in Tunis Village, start your adventure by boarding a Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 for a desert drive to Wadi Al Hitan (Whale Valley), a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005. The driving distance from Tunis Village to Wadi Al Hitan is about 69 km, taking roughly 1 hour and 37 minutes. Wadi Al Hitan is an extraordinary protected area, also known as Zeuglodon Valley, where the fossils of primitive whales were first discovered in 1936. Situated 35 km west of Wadi El Rayan in the depths of the Western Desert, the valley is often referred to as an open museum, dating back around 45 million years.

Here, you will find skeletons of ancient whales, shark teeth, shells, and fossilized mangrove roots preserved in soft rocks. Everywhere you walk, you will come across petrified seashells and corals. During your visit, explore the Fossil & Climate Change Museum, which displays a fascinating collection of whale fossils and skeletons outdoors, while inside the museum you can view fossilized mangroves and seashells showcased in glass cases. After exploring, enjoy your lunch at Wadi Al Hitan rest house, where you can choose the meal of your preference and we will arrange it for you.

Following lunch, drive back towards Tunis Village with stops at the Magic Lake and Gebel Al Mudawara. The Magic Lake, located in Wadi El Rayan, is one of the most beautiful lakes in Egypt, surrounded by golden sand dunes. Its name comes from the fact that the lake changes its colors several times throughout the day, depending on the season and the sunlight. This unique spot offers breathtaking views, especially during sunset, and is a popular destination for hiking, sandboarding, swimming, and even therapeutic relaxation, as the lake’s mineral content is said to help treat rheumatism. Afterward, visit Gebel Al Mudawara, a scenic area about 7 km south of the waterfalls.

Known as “The Lookout,” this picturesque site features three mountains along the lakeshore and is a favorite picnic area for travelers. Continue on to Wadi El Rayan, a remarkable natural reserve located about 75 km southwest of Fayoum city. Wadi El Rayan is a depression 42 meters below sea level, covering an area of 673 km². It became a water reservoir in 1966 after being connected to Qarun Lake via underground pipes. The highlight of Wadi El Rayan is its famous waterfalls, considered among the most beautiful in Egypt, and the area is named after King El Rayan Ibn El Walid who once lived here with his army. Take some time to enjoy tea at sunset overlooking this stunning desert and lake scenery before beginning your return journey.

Finally, drive back from Tunis Village to Cairo with an estimated arrival time of around 19:00.
