Most routings from Australia connect once, often through a Gulf or Asian hub, and the journey takes the best part of a day. Egypt is roughly 5 to 9 hours behind Australia, depending on your state and the season. With that much travel, we suggest at least 10 days in Egypt, and you can add an extra night in Cairo at the start to rest.

Visa rules depend on the passport you hold and change from time to time, so we confirm the current requirements for you when we plan your trip, before you book flights. For many nationalities Egypt issues a single-entry tourist visa for $36, valid for 30 days, on arrival at the main airports or online through the official e-Visa portal, but do not assume this applies to you until we have checked.

Our Egypt tour packages start from $745 per person for a 5-day Cairo trip. Budget Cairo and Nile cruise packages of 7 to 8 days start from $1,020, 10- to 15-day trips with the Red Sea or Abu Simbel start from $1,450, and luxury dahabiya journeys go higher. Prices are per person in US dollars, not Australian dollars, and international flights are extra.

Because the flight is so long, 10 to 15 days gives you the best value: Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and a Nile cruise, plus Abu Simbel, Alexandria or a few days on the Red Sea in Hurghada or Sharm El-Sheikh. If you are short on leave, 7 to 8 days still covers Cairo and a Nile cruise. Every itinerary on this page can be lengthened or shortened.

Mid-October to April is Egypt's most comfortable season, and the Australian summer holidays in December and January fall right in it; they are the busiest weeks, with Christmas and New Year filling first, so book 2 to 3 months ahead or earlier. The September-October holidays mark the start of the season. The June-July holidays fall in Egypt's hot summer, which brings fewer visitors and lower prices.

Prices are quoted in US dollars, and you pay only once the itinerary is the one you want; booking is by enquiry, with no online checkout. A deposit as low as 30% confirms the trip (50% over Christmas, New Year and Easter), and the balance is due two days before arrival or in cash on arrival.
